The conference started with Miyamoto walking out on stage in a tux and conducted a symphony on a game with the Wii controller. It was a cool way to start it all off. They start right off with a video of the Wii. The video shows people playing the Wii much like the 2005 E3 video, only with this, they show game footage. They all use the controller in real creative ways. Some seem like it will be hard to learn, but they also look fun, which is was really matters. Nintendo did not say a price, they just said the Wii will launch 4th quarter 2006, and that The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess will be realesed on the same day as the Wii. The new Zelda game will have two versions- one for Wii, one for Gamecube.
The Wii controller has a built in speaker that will make sound dept seems more realistic. In Zelda, you will shoot an arrow, you’ll hear it fly from your hand to the TV, so it sounds as though your really shooting an arrow. The numchuck controller also has motion sensing abilities.
They talked about Wii Connect, their online service that keeps the Wii on all the time, and has an auto-update of sorts so you can wake up and notice a new map was downloaded last night! Wii Connect also ties into the games. In Animal Crossing, your friend could come into your town, and leave you a message, then when you get on, see the message and even go to their town. That’s just awesome.
Here’s some of the games they talked about:
UPDATE: “Retro” controller has been leaked. Here it is:

No word on if it hooks up to the remote like the numchuck or if it is a stand alone unit. And no, this isn’t a replacement for the remote control, this is the redesign:
